I’m Broke But I’m Not Broken

Yep, you read that right. I am broke but I am not broken. I am broke in the financial sense of the word. Though I am born with food, shelter and clothing, I am broke but I must say I am still lucky. Oh, by the way, I am living on a day to day or week by week basis. I would find ways to earn just so my family and I can eat for a day or a week. It seems abnormal to me before until this abnormal thing became the most normal thing to me now.

I am lucky enough to be still breathing up to this day, as cliché as that may sound. For many years, I’m finding it hard to make ends meet. I am not saying this for you to pity me but I am inspiring you that broke people can be happy. Broke people are just broke and that’s just it. It took me years of practice to train my mind not to get affected by shitty people, unfathomable government, bad economy or whatever the fuck you want to name it.

It all boils down to our philosophy and the way we perceive things. The way we react to what happens to us is of paramount importance, too. Case in point, bad things happen mostly because we allow them to happen. Though at times it is not our fault, it is still our fault if we let the odds or the stress affect us. And, that’s the same with money. Yes, we are broke but we can just thicken our face and tell ourselves that this stage will soon be over. We can make it because we really can make it. We can do this because keeping our heads above the water is the only option there is.

It is not wishful thinking to be thinking this way. It’s just my way of thinking that I always tell myself that I will survive. I have to because I have a family to feed aside from the anaconda in my belly. It came to a point where I don’t want to eat anymore because I will end up hungry anyway. I bet many people can relate to this esp. the ones who live in a third world country. I am with all these people who live for their families, who still choose to live even if they don’t want to, who choose to work tirelessly and who choose to keep breathing until they reach their dreams.

To you reading this, if you are not broke, congratulations. You are one of the luckiest people in the world and I hope you share that “luck” if you ever believe in luck but I know that you know what I mean.

To the peeps who are like me, well, being broke rocks. Being broke sucks but then again, we always survive. So I guess, we can say that we too, are one of the luckiest people in the world. 😀

Why You Should Find Time to Do What You Love

We are all busy. We all get overwhelmed at one point or another. We have lots of things to do and even if we prioritize, chances are, it looks like time is never enough. True, but we could always find time to what we love if we really want to. For me, I always find time to write (blog, journal and snail mail). I do this before sleeping or upon waking up for at least 5 to 15 minutes. At least, I have 15 happiest minutes of my life before the day ends! 😀

Writing, like any other passion and hobby, takes time and dedication. Be it dancing, gardening, fencing, skydiving or whatever you think you would do, it’s going to take a bit of your time if not too much. But this is the only moment where time stops. This is the time when you feel very fearless because you are in your own element. You are doing what you love the most and you deserve it. You deserve good times in this lifetime.

Parents and people who dedicated their time taking care of other people can have an excuse to this. But if you’re doing otherwise, basically there’s no excuse not to do what you love doing. Life is too short to be stuck in something that you don’t like to do. Having a work that you don’t love but gives you money is another story but most people do it to survive. However, if you can have the work of your dreams, go ahead and take it. If it’s hard to find, do something to achieve it and be open to other stuff as well.

At the end of the day, we all feel tired and used up. But if we do what we do best which is also the one thing that we like doing, we’d feel fulfilled even when we’re exhausted to death. Remember, one of the good ways to be fulfilled and happy is to do what you love. We are still alive so the good thing is, we still have this wonderful chance to do what we love doing. Let us not miss this wonderful chance.

If we don’t find time to do what we love, we will never find it. 🙂

Dare to Do Something

Sometimes, if not many times, I just want to dissolve. I felt like I don’t know anything and I’m not doing something good. Okay, enough of this nonsense drama. I just said these sentences to emphasize that it is normal to feel this way, at least one point in our lives. Every year, I have a self-ritual. It is not actually a ritual but it is something that I want to do: learn a new thing or dare to do something I haven’t done. It must be something that I think I cannot do, something that intimidates me. What is that one thing for you? For me, it is cooking. I attended a cooking class and met wonderful people. They are so wonderful that even if I don’t know anything about cooking, they happily shared what they know. The teachers are nice and there’s no excuse that I couldn’t learn. So, I opened myself to learning and I listened a lot. Of course, I dared to cook. My insides felt fried but I kept going until I have cooked some edible meals. There’s something cool about knowing that we can feed ourselves. Even if I am not a cook, I can feed myself. To be honest, I don’t like the taste of my cooking but at least, I have felt that for once in my life, I did something right. And that is, cooking my own meal. Did you dare to do something you haven’t done? Just do it. Give it a try. You don’t know what you’re capable of if you don’t try. What have you got to lose? Whether you win or lose, you still gain experience. Dare to start. Dare to fail. Dare to be great. 😀

~ Live Your Own Life

~ Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. – Steve Jobs

Live your own life, go for your dreams and remember that life is too short so please yourself first before other people. They don’t matter unless they are the ones who truly know and love you for who you are. 🙂

Don’t Quit

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,

When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill,

When the funds are low and the debts are high,

And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,

When care is pressing you down a bit-

Rest if you must, but don’t you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,

As every one of us sometimes learns,

And many a fellow turns about

When he might have won had he stuck it out.

Don’t give up though the pace seems slow –

You may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than

It seems to a faint and faltering man;

Often the struggler has given up

When he might have captured the victor’s cup;

And he learned too late when the night came down,

How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out –

The silver tint in the clouds of doubt,

And you never can tell how close you are,

It might be near when it seems afar;

So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit –

It’s when things seem worst that you must not quit.

Black Hole — No, Thanks!

In response to Daily Prompt: No Thanks.

Is there a place in the world you never want to visit? Where, and why not?

I am a dot in this vast universe, a very small dot with dreams bigger than the milky way. I am the kind of individual who can live by the basics — a primitive in this modern era of existence. Assuming that I do not know Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, I still can live with these basic needs: food, shelter and clothing. Can you imagine that I survived eight (8) years without television? To this day and age, I am still using a very old cellular phone without a camera (the old one where you press the keypad)! I know I am worse than a hipster and a retro man, I can even hear you say that!

When I read that Mars One plans a human settlement on that coveted red planet, I visited their site and dreamt that someday, I will be one of those earthlings-turned-martians who will live a glorious life there. After a little discernment, I don’t think I am ready for that new life outside Earth even if I am very much fascinated with every information about Mars. Moreover, if I have given up on my Mars dream, I wouldn’t risk my life having a holiday or a short visit to the Black hole.

Why not?! If I visit the Black hole, I would lose the chance of doing the things and dreams on my bucket list (since most places I want to visit is located here on Earth) and lose the opportunity to spend time with my loved ones. So to speak, I would never risk something that I could not afford to lose. Black hole is just a hole, a death sentence to anything since light cannot even escape from it. And, even if there is an escape, I would not take the chance. I would rather take my family and friends to a once in a lifetime exploration ala Christopher Columbus.
