Why You Should Keep Going

Nothing in life is permanent except change. Everything comes and goes. If that’s a fact, then it is enough consolation to keep going, no matter what stage of life we are in. We all know that nothing is certain, so I hope you can add this to your many reasons on why you should keep going.

You think you are not good and you think you will just fail. Who knows, tomorrow is your lucky day or you’ll make it to be your lucky day! Keep going.

You have no confidence. The great thing is, you can practice to be confident about yourself. Practice takes time but you can do it. Keep going.

You are not happy with your current life and relationships. You can make things better for you and for them. Take note, it just takes time. Keep going.

You’re back to square one. Well, you can always start again and again, even if it’s fucking hard. Starting from scratch will be your talent in no time. Keep going.

You failed and failed and failed. So what? You’re just human and you can always try. Keep going.

You want to give up for good. Please don’t do it because you have gone this far. Will you waste your precious time for the many years of your hard work? Keep going.

There are lots of other reasons and dilemmas you will face. But one thing is for sure, you should keep going. Life ends, when we stop doing what we should be doing and when we give up for no good reason at all. 🙂

What’s done is done. What’s gone is gone. One of life’s lessons is always moving on. It’s okay to look back to see how far you’ve come but keep moving forward.

Why You Should Be in Control of Your Moods

The idea that the weather and people’s moods are connected is quite old. Do you agree? If yes, how does the weather affect your mood? – The Daily Post

For ages, it’s been known that weather affects our moods and it’s always a hearsay. “Is there a truth to this,” you might ask. According to the plethora of articles in the net, yes and no. But then who cares? Take this for example, what if you are a writer, you woke on the wrong side of the bed, you woke up sick plus the weather is gloomy? To make things worse, you woke up with flu  and you feel sluggish. Then, a strong brush of typhoon wind has touched your dry face. Whoa, what a combo you got there! Is that one recipe for a bad mood? What do you think? 😀

Now, let me tell you the stories of my friends whom I know always have bad days. So, A works at a faraway place and her travel time everyday is between 2 to 3 hours, going to work and getting back home. That is a total of 4 to 6 hours! She’s underpaid and works for about 10 to 12 hours! Sometimes, even more! Mind you, the salary is so meager that even undergraduates would not want even a piece of her technical job! She is the breadwinner of her family and sometimes she regrets not having enough time for herself.

Enter B. B is a father of 3 kids, and a father of another 2 kids outside marriage. That’s a total of 5 kids! Having 5 kids these days is a disaster unless you have the means to give them a good life. Sounds normal, but what’s tormenting is that when all these kids were born, several close people of B got sick and died. He also lost his business and some partners who owed him money didn’t pay him back. He also lost his dad and now, he also sends money for his mom’s monthly medication and money to send his siblings to school.  These stories, I guess, were more than bad weathers but bad cases and very common, too.

I asked both friends if weather had affected their moods and they said, “NO.” Is it because they’re used to it or they just chose not to be affected? According to the both of them, weather can somehow affect our moods but what really affects us is the way we think about the situation.  I definitely agree.

A weather may be a good one and a place may be so wonderful, but it is what we do to what happens to us define the moment. Even if it’s a beautiful, autumn day and you won the lottery, none of it seems to matter if you choose your mood to be a bad one. Too bad, a day is wasted before you even get to start it. And, when we are feeling bad, we get to do bad things we don’t even want to do!

“When you’re in bad mood, you find jerk on anywhere.” ― Toba Beta, My Ancestor Was an Ancient Astronaut

Thus, my conclusion is this:

We must be in control of our moods, or else our moods will control us. We cannot control the weather but we can control our moods. Knowing that fact, isn’t it wonderful that we have a choice? Let’s choose the good one.

Why I Don’t Believe In Resolutions

First, let’s be clear on what a resolution is. A resolution is firm decision about something that we do not want to do (and vice versa, but mostly the former definition is the most popular). I, for a living example, would be telling myself that I’d never be late again, ever. Did it happen? Was I able to change my situation after that creating that resolution? If you think I was able to change for the better after that, you are wrong. I did not and it has gotten worst after that. I won’t, I will not, I will never, what the ****? What’s the resolution anyway?

Note: In my own context for this post, resolution is referred to as the I-will-not-do-this kind of thing.

Now, what is a goal? A goal is a result that we wanted, the outcome that we expect to happen and for me, it is more realistic because it comes with a deadline. While a goal is hard to achieve and can put pressure to any state that we are in, it pushes us to become better. What is the point of setting something that you want to achieve and then you don’t know when do you want to achieve it? Even if you are telling yourself that you’d get it in a year, it would seem like you are procrastinating and having some excuses. If it does not happen this year, you would tell yourself that you can make it happen next year. See, that is resolution. A resolution is not clearly defined like a goal. That is why New Year’s resolutions never end! We just have to break the resolution cycle!

If a goal is not achieved after the set date, then you’ve got to try again and you must not stop until you reach your goal. In my opinion, it is more achievable that way rather than falling into the trap of resolutions. We are going to say that we won’t do this and that and then after some time, we caught ourselves saying, “Omg, I did it again.” Well, that’s just an opinion but that kind of thinking stops us from being the productive persons that we are. Would you rather have more resolutions than goals? Would you rather believe in the power of I-won’t-do-this than the power of I-will-do-this on this date no matter what? What do you think is more feasible?

I am not saying that creating resolutions is a bad thing. If it worked for you, then proceed and do what applies more to you. From my experience, I’ve been dumbfounded with creating resolutions. I am left with my list never cleared. My resolutions remained as resolutions and I just felt bad about it. If we are feeling bad at some things in general, would it give justice if we just let it go? And so I did. I have let go of the numerous resolutions I have made — those countless resolutions that are put into paper but never put into reality.

Besides, most successful people say that to be able to achieve your dreams, you must achieve your goals first. After all, goals are nearer to dreams compared to resolutions. For evidence, please confirm and consult Mr. Webster. Have a great 2014 everyone!

P.S. We do not need to set many goals at once. Having set little goals that are always achieved is key rather than a bulk of resolutions that are going nowhere. It would not hurt to prepare a bucket list and do what’s in it before you kick your bucket for good! 🙂

How to be Naturally Beautiful (Part 1)

Many people would want to be beautiful and I absolutely understand that because that is human nature. I am not a hypocrite to admit that I also want to look good especially when attending occasions, important meetings and the like. I am not the type who would dress and make up but I honestly want to look presentable. Let’s just say that I want to look like a human being so that I would look approachable, decent and nice.

I won’t talk about primping and beauty stuff because I look like a wimp and has not done any makeover to date. The last time I was really dressed up was when I attended weddings of two close friends who requested me to look like a lady. Whenever I need to look presentable, I  leave it to the makeup artist. Yeah, I know you guys would say I should learn how to put makeup on my own. I will learn soon or so I thought.

Here are my tips to be naturally beautiful even without makeup. Please feel free to add your tips. 🙂

1. Feel grateful. It is hard to feel grateful when many bad things are happening to us but the feeling of gratefulness will make us feel contented. And, when we are contented, we somehow feel happy. Lucky for those of you who managed to feel really happy and contented because the joy it gives will bring out the glow in your face. Ever noticed when someone comments how beautiful or handsome you are when in fact you did nothing? It is because you are grateful and happy and it naturally shows.

2. Bring out the best in other people. When we bring out the potential of others, we also bring out the best in ourselves unconsciously. We make them reach their dreams and when they do, we also feel happy and fulfilled. No need to mention that it also makes our hearts smile, too.

3. Eat and drink healthily. This is self-explanatory.

4. Be mindful and think more happy thoughts. I am not going to say to just think positive thoughts because when we are so weary, it is somehow hard to do unless you are used to positive thinking every time you experience a downfall. I am naturally pessimistic so it is hard for me to always think positive thoughts. When negativity sets in, I think of some happy thoughts or funny memories that made me smile big time back then. It might not completely alter my bad mood but it lessens the burden that I am feeling.

5. Do what you love doing. It is hard to find a job that we like but we can still do some little things that we like to do. Engage yourself in a hobby or a new activity that will make you more productive. Do something that will boost your mood or improve your skills.

Let me stop at #5 for now. I will be thinking of more tips to be posted soon. After all, beauty is all about attitude. Feel and know that you are a beautiful individual, now and forever.
